Scottsburg Cross Country Competes at Duke Meyer Classic

The Scottsburg High School and Middle School cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Duke Meyer Classic Invitational on Saturday, racing against a deep field of schools from across southern Indiana and Kentucky. High School Warriors & Warriorettes For the high school boys, Kameron Reed led Scottsburg with a 22nd-place finish, clocking 18:38.23 in the 5K. He was followed closely by Gavin Curley, who crossed the line in 19:45.76. The Warriorettes also had a tight pack of finishers with Brooklyn Moon (25:35.66), Addison Elliott (26:46.35), Addison Eldridge (26:48.35), and Briley Bary (27:10.16) competing well against tough regional competition. On the girls’ side, Scottsburg packed in a trio of runners as Moon, Elliott, and Eldridge finished within just over a minute of one another. Their effort gave the Warriorette squad solid depth in a race featuring some of the state’s top programs. Middle School Warriors & Warriorettes The Scottsburg Middle School runners also made their mark in the 3K races. For the boys, Caleb Cox ran a terrific race, placing 3rd overall in 11:44.69. Teammate Jase DePriest was right behind in 5th at 11:46.84, giving the Warriors two finishers in the top five. Wyatt English (12:48.74) also cracked the top 20, while Caleb Mays (16:48.00) rounded out the team’s efforts. In the girls’ race, Mattie Pearcy paced Scottsburg with an outstanding run, finishing runner-up in 11:55.00 against a field of more than 80 athletes. She was backed by Whitley Horn (15:35.77), Eloise Whitmore (16:10.91), Isabelle Bales (16:28.44), Olivia Canada (16:32.85), and Ryliegh Shell (17:00.40). The Warriorette middle schoolers placed 7th as a team with 167 points, showing strong balance behind Pearcy’s front-running performance.
