The Scottsburg Warriors and Warriorettes cross country teams competed Saturday, October 10, in the Mid-Southern Conference Championships, taking on some of the top runners in southern Indiana. Warriorettes Compete with Limited Lineup The Warriorettes entered Saturday’s conference championship shorthanded, with several members of the team unavailable due to fall break. Despite the reduced lineup, four Scottsburg runners represented the purple and gold. Sophomore Presley Buckel led the Warriorettes with a 19th-place finish, crossing the line in 22:31. Her performance earned her Honorable Mention All-Mid-Southern Conference recognition, awarded to runners finishing 14th through 21st. Senior Providence Vaughn was Scottsburg’s second finisher, placing 33rd in 24:15. Fellow senior Addison Eldridge finished 40th in 25:17, while senior Addison Elliott completed the course in 27:09 to finish 49th. Silver Creek won the girls conference championship with 33 points, followed by Corydon Central with 55 and Madison Consolidated with 68. Silver Creek junior Grace Duggins earned the individual conference championship with a time of 18:56. Buckel Earns Conference Recognition One of the highlights of the day for Scottsburg was Buckel’s Honorable Mention All-Conference performance. Under MSC championship recognition guidelines, the top 13 individual finishers earn All-Conference honors, while the next eight runners receive Honorable Mention recognition. Buckel’s 19th-place finish placed her among the conference’s recognized runners and provided a bright spot for the Warriorettes on a day when the team was competing without its full roster. Saturday’s championships also showcased the youth of the Warriors’ roster, with four freshmen among Scottsburg’s top seven finishers. Both Scottsburg programs will look to build on their conference championship performances as they prepare for the upcoming IHSAA state tournament.
