Warriors Finish Runner-Up at Scottsburg Tennis Invitational

SCOTTSBURG — The Scottsburg Warriors turned in a strong performance on their home courts Saturday, finishing second overall in the eight-team Scottsburg Tennis Invitational. Salem captured the team championship with 51 points, while Scottsburg finished runner-up with 29 points. Trinity Lutheran placed third with 23, followed closely by Madison with 22. The final team standings were: 1. Salem — 51 2. Scottsburg — 29 3. Trinity Lutheran — 23 4. Madison — 22 5. Brownstown Central — 21 6. Austin — 20 7. Southwestern (Hanover) — 13 8. Henryville — 1 Scottsburg accumulated its 29 points across the five tournament divisions, scoring eight points at No. 1 singles, six at No. 2 singles, eight at No. 3 singles, four at No. 1 doubles and three at No. 2 doubles. The balanced effort allowed the Warriors to finish ahead of a tightly packed group behind them, as only three points separated Trinity Lutheran, Madison and Brownstown Central in the battle for third through fifth. The invitational brought together Austin, Brownstown Central, Henryville, Madison, Salem, Scottsburg, Southwestern and Trinity Lutheran for Saturday’s competition. The runner-up finish adds another strong showing to the Warriors’ season as Scottsburg heads into the final portion of its regular-season schedule. The Warriors are scheduled to travel to Madison on Monday, Sept. 21, before hosting Silver Creek on Tuesday and Austin on Wednesday.
