NASHVILLE, Ind. — Scottsburg’s freshman/sophomore boys cross country team turned in a solid performance Saturday at the 2026 Eagle Classic at Brown County, placing 11th out of 17 scoring teams in a deep field featuring several of the state’s larger programs. The young Warriors finished with 301 points, just seven points behind 10th-place Floyd Central and one point ahead of Columbus East. Scottsburg’s top five runners averaged 19:52 over the 5K course. Asher Horton led the Warriors, finishing in 18:54 with a 6:05-per-mile pace. Horton scored 50 team points. Scottsburg then received back-to-back strong performances from Caleb Cox and Caleb Salas, who each crossed the finish line in 19:06. Cox scored 54 points, while Salas was right behind with 55. Carter Howell was the fourth Warrior across the line, recording a time of 20:07 and scoring 62 points. Jaxon Sayers completed Scottsburg’s scoring five with a time of 22:07, good for 80 points. Rylan Dowden finished in 22:23, while Ben Hough rounded out the Scottsburg lineup with a time of 28:06. Carmel won the freshman/sophomore team championship with 49 points, followed by Brownsburg with 72 and Bloomington South with 95. For a young Scottsburg squad, the 11th-place finish provided valuable experience against quality competition and another opportunity for the Warriors’ freshmen and sophomores to continue building toward the future of the program.
