HANOVER — The Scottsburg boys cross country team used a balanced team effort to capture the championship at the Scottsburg Invitational on Tuesday evening at the Hanover College Cross Country Course. The Warriors placed all five scoring runners among the top 24 finishers and finished with 85 points, edging Charlestown by three points for the team title. Shawe Memorial placed third with 93 points. Junior Gavin Curley led Scottsburg by placing 10th overall in a season-best time of 19:22.1. Senior Kameron Reed also recorded a season-best performance, finishing 16th in 19:51.8. Freshmen Asher Horton and Caleb Cox crossed the finish line less than a second apart. Horton placed 21st in 20:14.5, while Cox finished 22nd with a personal-best time of 20:15.4. Sophomore Caleb Salas completed the Warriors’ scoring in 24th place with a time of 20:33.1. Freshman Carter Howell finished 71st in 24:36.5, and senior Eli Combs placed 85th in 26:34.6. Scottsburg’s five scoring runners were separated by just 1:11, helping the Warriors overcome a competitive 14-team field and bring home the invitational championship. Boys Team Standings 1. Southwestern (Hanover) won the team championship with 31 points, followed by Switzerland County with 74 and Bloomington Bobcats Homeschool with 79. Senior Addison Eldridge led the Warriorettes, placing 27th overall with a time of 27:45.1. Senior Providence Vaughn followed in 33rd place and recorded a personal-best time of 29:05.6. Junior Sofie Riley finished 42nd in 31:17.0, while junior Georgia McNeely placed 46th in 32:25.0. Freshman Geneva Bennett completed Scottsburg’s scoring five by placing 56th in 35:12.0.
