Scottsburg’s boys track and field team battled tough competition Thursday night at the IHSAA Sectional hosted by Madison Consolidated, with several Warriors turning in strong performances against one of the area’s deepest fields. Scottsburg finished ninth overall in the team standings with 20 points. While the Warriors did not have any athletes earn a top-three finish to automatically advance to the regional, Scottsburg still produced several notable performances throughout the evening. Junior Kameron Reed led the Warriors on the track with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:05.28. Reed also added a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 inches. Sophomore Gavin Curley had a productive night for Scottsburg as well. Curley placed sixth in the 1600-meter run in 4:53.95 and added a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.92. He also cleared 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump to finish seventh. The Warriors’ 4x800-meter relay team of Aiden Krieger, Gavin Curley, Damien Brooks, and Kameron Reed placed sixth overall with a time of 9:12.90. In the field events, Josh Telles finished ninth in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 6½ inches, while freshman Damien Brooks placed 10th in the long jump at 17 feet, 2½ inches. Scottsburg also received contributions from Luke Hamilton and Myles Ridge, who tied for eighth in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet, 6 inches. Other Warrior performances included: * Max Spellman placing 13th in the 200 meters * Myles Ridge finishing 12th in the 100 meters preliminaries * Eli Ault placing 14th in the 400 meters * The 4x100-meter relay team finishing seventh * The 4x400-meter relay team placing ninth overall Silver Creek captured the sectional championship with 153 points, followed by Jeffersonville with 113 and Charlestown with 79.
