Scottsburg Track and Field Opens Season at Early Bird Showcase

The Scottsburg High School track and field teams opened the 2026 season Tuesday at the Early Bird Showcase at Silver Creek, competing against Silver Creek, Charlestown, and Salem. The Warriorettes placed third overall with 36 points, narrowly edging Salem by one point, while the Warriors finished fourth with 23 points in a competitive field. Busick, Payne-Eldridge Lead Girls Team to Third-Place Finish The Scottsburg girls were led by standout senior Taylor Busick, who captured a meet title in the 100-meter hurdles, winning in 17.02 seconds. Teammate Kylee Miles added to the scoring with a third-place finish (19.04) in the same event. Freshman Anissah Payne-Eldridge also delivered a major highlight, winning the pole vault (8-0) to earn first place. Addison Eldridge placed third (7-0), while Eliana Muncy added points with a fifth-place finish (6-0), giving Scottsburg a dominant showing in the event. Sophomore Sofie Riley turned in a strong all-around performance, finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles (55.65) and placing sixth in the 100 meters (13.89). In the field events, senior Arya Stillions contributed across multiple events, placing second in the high jump (4-6) and fourth in the long jump (14-0.5). Additional scoring came from the throws, where Brynley Culley finished fourth in discus (77-4) and Lily Neace placed fifth (65-11). The Warriorettes also saw success in relays, with the 4x100 relay team placing second (56.56) to add key team points. Richardson, Cooper Pace Boys Effort On the boys side, Scottsburg was led by a dominant showing in the throws. Junior Christopher Richardson won the discus (106-4) and followed with a second-place finish in shot put (44-0), accounting for a large portion of the Warriors’ points. Teammate Clyde Cooper also had a strong meet, placing second in discus (105-6) and fourth in shot put (38-7). In the jumping events, Kameron Reed added points with a fourth-place finish in long jump (19-7) and also placed fifth in the 1600 meters (5:08.89). The Warriors’ sprint and relay groups showed competitiveness, with the 4x100 relay team placing fourth (47.44) and the 4x800 relay finishing fourth (9:56.60). Additional contributions came from Myles Ridge, who placed seventh in the 400 meters (59.17), and Gavin Curley, who competed in both the 800 meters (2:25.31) and high jump (5-2). Strong Start to the Season The Early Bird Showcase provided a solid opening test for both Scottsburg squads. The girls team showed strong balance across events in a tight team race, while the boys were powered by standout performances in the throwing events. With multiple event winners, several top-three finishes, and contributions from athletes across all grade levels, Scottsburg established a strong foundation to build on as the season progresses.
