SEYMOUR — Scottsburg’s season came to an end Tuesday night as the Warriors fell to New Albany, 80–64, in the opening round of the IHSAA Boys Basketball Sectional. Scottsburg closes the year with a 13–11 record after battling the Bulldogs throughout much of the contest. New Albany built an early advantage and used a big third quarter to pull away. The Bulldogs led 18–12 after the first quarter and extended their margin to 39–23 at halftime. Scottsburg responded with its best offensive stretch in the third quarter, scoring 20 points, but New Albany answered with 28 points in the period to maintain control heading into the fourth quarter at 67–43. Scottsburg outscored the Bulldogs 21–13 in the final period, but the rally came too late as New Albany secured the 16-point win. Sophomore Caiden Boswell led the Warriors offensively with 24 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, while adding nine rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes. Aiden Cornelius added 15 points, knocking down 5-of-6 shots and hitting two three-pointers and a monster dunk in an efficient performance. Scottsburg also received contributions from Garrett Boling with 9 points, Jarin Luttrell with 8 points, and Braden Cox with 5 points and three assists. As a team, the Warriors shot 50 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range, but turnovers proved costly. Scottsburg committed 25 turnovers, which New Albany converted into 27 points, a key factor in the Bulldogs’ victory. The Warriors held advantages in several areas, including rebounding (34–28) and three-point shooting (8 made threes to New Albany’s 4), but New Albany’s ability to generate offense off turnovers and dominate points in the paint (46–26) helped the Bulldogs control the game. New Albany was led by Noah Washington, who scored 25 points, while Seth Winslow II and Karson Stoudemire each added 13 points. Despite the loss, the Warriors closed the season with a winning record and several strong performances down the stretch. Scottsburg finishes the 2025-26 season at 13–11, with Tuesday night’s sectional game marking the final chapter of the year.
