The Scottsburg Warrior wrestling team faced tough competition on Saturday at the Southwestern Invitational, finishing 10th overall out of 19 teams in a deep and competitive field at Southwestern (Hanover). The Warriors scored 85 team points, competing against several perennial wrestling programs from across southern Indiana. Despite the challenging bracket, Scottsburg had several standout individual performances, highlighted by James Salkeld capturing the individual championship at 138 pounds. Salkeld put together a dominant run through the tournament, recording multiple falls and a technical fall on his way to the title, showcasing his aggressive style and conditioning. At 113 pounds, Beau Carter earned a strong 3rd-place finish, stringing together several impressive victories, including multiple falls and a technical fall during his tournament run. Carter’s performance provided key momentum for the Warriors throughout the day. Additional placers for Scottsburg included: Matthew Hamilton – 7th place at 157 pounds Hayden Wycoff – 7th place at 190 pounds Elijah Helton – 7th place at 215 pounds Several Warriors also picked up valuable varsity experience in a demanding tournament environment, battling through multiple matches against quality opponents from across the region. Those efforts, while not always reflected in final placements, continue to build depth and resilience for the team as the season progresses.
